Medal Grades

Dancebasics offers the opportunity to work towards graded medal exams for all ages and abilities.  This can be done in a class environment or through private lessons.

There are two exam days a year - one in July and one in December.  At these, a UKA examiner visits and assesses each student's ability according to a range of criteria including technique, presentation, movement and musicality.  Each dance is graded and aggregated into an overall result.  Each student receives a plaque, certificate and report sheet with constructive comments!!

We find the medal system particularly useful in the children's classes to give purpose and structure, however a great many of adults also choose to work towards awards as a way of improving their dancing.

Taking medal exams also allows a student to enter the UKA medallist competitions that are held throughout the year - see the EVENTS page for details of dates.  The students dance in their specific age and grade category with one of their teachers against students from other schools.  The national medallist competition is held during the first weekend in October
